Dear Father,

I thank you for the grace, the love, the direction, the protection, your forgiveness when we make mistakes, the blessings, always being there for us 24/7 whenever we need you and how far you have bought us all. I pray that we individually work on our being daily and surrender all to you, those stubborn areas I pray over and for hearts to be softened and the understanding for those to really know who they are in Christ.

As part of the stepping out in your calling series- part three will be discussing – WHAT IT MEANS TO SURRENDER TO GOD

So what does it mean to surrender all to God???

Lets firstly look at the below two scriptures to help understand it from a biblical point of view and if you cannot find it in scripture dismiss it.

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. When you trust fully in God you will know that all the works of the enemy have been defeated and all its ways shall be eliminated forever. The enemy doesn’t take holidays so it is important that you submit ALL your ways to God and not your own might because not only do we need God for our everyday living and walk in Christ we need His protection and guidance over what to do and what to stay away from. That is to say that when you submit your being, your actions, your mind-set, where you go, who you hang around, your career, family life etc will be able to resist the devil and he will indeed flee from us. You can’t give some of you to God, God requires all of your being, do not feel you have to be in control of everything because you cannot do it all alone.

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. God wants us to have renewed minds, not the minds we had when in the world, but to surrender all to Him, honour and obey Him. He has always wanted what is best for us all nothing less and so we need to remember this and give ourselves joyfully as living sacrifices for Him alone and His service. We must refuse to conform to the ways of the world because our purpose cannot be birthed when we surrender to ways that lead to a dead end. But rather we should be renewed in our behaviour and thoughts to avoid what the world is offering selfishness, greed, competition, arrogance and more. The Holy Spirit once you surrender all will renew, re-educate, direct and transform in more ways than one.

Here it is very clear that it is about surrendering all to Him and not just our circumstances No. It is no longer about who you want to become, your opinions or what you want to see. There is freedom from the wicked world when you trust in God to use you and to take control in your life, defend you, get close to you to build a relationship and bless you. I wouldn’t have it any other way to be honest because in the world there is so much pressure to enhance your features and competition on how we dress and what we have, pressure to be perfect yet not realising we all aren’t perfect and will make mistakes. Leave all that In God’s hands and embrace your differences you are not who man says you are you are who God says you are and the word is there to encourage others.

SURRENDER ALL TO GOD AND LET HIM TAKE OVER (William McDowell – Withholding nothing..)

You do not know everything, you do not know your tomorrow, you do not see everything that happens around 24/7 only God can see the future and knows the end from the beginning it wouldn’t make sense to think you can take His place to run your life and fulfil your purpose because, it is not you who blessed yourself with the purpose concerning your life but God alone and it is not for us to take all the glory for what God has done and is still doing.

“Lord, do whatever is necessary to MAKE ME what you are after. But I give myself to you that you might do whatever it takes to show me the Truth, and to make that Truth living in me.” This is true surrender, and the one spoken about in Romans 12:1-2. What is in you and I must surely manifest, the Christ in us to help build the kingdom and win souls. God wants to glorify Himself in us, and that never means anything less than to make Christ seen and know. He wants us to be living examples of what it means for God to have His way with a human being.’

When you surrender your life to God you are showing that:

  • You trust in Him totally to lead you to your expected end and you do not doubt that
  • You trust in Him and are waiting on His timing not the timing of man to lead you astray.
  • You do not know how God is going to provide your needs but you will stay focused on Him alone
  • To die to self and let God take control in all your circumstances.

When you surrender all to God and not man you find a change within you and rather than doing things of your own might you let God do it and trust in Him to always deliver. You cannot carry the load alone, when you surrender, old habits from before cease to exist you are slow to anger, more appreciative of things, build on you relationship with God more, do not rush to defend yourself when things get tough.

Yeshua when here on earth and the night before He was due to be crucified gave up all His being and surrendered to God. Mark 14:36 ‘and he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.’

Surrendering all to God is to build a relationship with Him one to one, you will not always understand why He does things but will trust in Him to show you and reveal to you things you cannot see. Surrender that is genuine says, “Father, if this

problem or circumstance is needed to fulfil your purpose and glory in my life or in another’s life, please don’t take it away let me endure and learn from it.”

This level of maturity in the walk is not easy for many, most struggle and block their spiritual eyes without even realising to stop receiving what God is trying to show them. Surrender is not small play and should not be taken lightly, it will require from you commitment, dedication, faith and trust to take over in our case, it requires intense warfare against our self-centred nature.

‘Surrendering to God is the most selfless thing we can do to show Him and those that we love that we have the strength, the faith, and the dedication to love Him and ourselves greater than anything or anyone else in this world! By doing this, we can then love others in ways we have never known before.’ Rick Warren

I read somewhere that as an idea it is good to write a list of what is important to you as in your plans, your ideas, career dreams etc and pray over it all to God and let Him have His way to show you what you need and do not need to hold onto. Ask Him to explain to you things to help you understand what you don’t know already and to update on what you already know.

To surrender yourself to God isn’t for you to take all the glory, it is the level of faith you have to know and believe that whatever He has deposited in you is to be birthed in the kingdom with Him alone taking all glory. As this is happening you are letting God closer to you to let Him perfect all that concerns your calling and who you are called to impact.

So by now it is very important to note that we are not our own, so all our ways are surrendering to God and should not be overlooked. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1 Cor 6:19-20)

Food for thought to reflect on- Read this and would like to share it with you all..

“God has a plan for our lives, and surrendering to Him means we set aside our own plans and eagerly seek His. The good news is that God’s plan for us is always in our best interest Jeremiah 29:11, unlike our own plans that often lead to destruction. Our Lord is a wise and beneficent victor; He conquers us to bless us.

The more areas of our lives we surrender to Him, the more room there is for the filling of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we exhibit traits of His character (Galatians 5:22). The more we surrender to God, the more our old self-worshiping nature is replaced with one that resembles Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Romans 6:13 says that God demands that we surrender the totality of our selves; He wants the whole, not a part: “Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.” Jesus said that His followers must deny themselves (Mark 8:34)—another call to surrender.

The goal of the Christian life can be summed up by Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Such a life of surrender is pleasing to God, results in the greatest human fulfilment, and will reap ultimate rewards in heaven (Luke 6:22-23).”
