Dear Father,

I thank you for another blessed day we have all been able to see, I thank you because of who you are and all you have done for us, our Father, our protector, our guide, you have never failed us, always equipping us, blessing us and shutting doors and taking away those from our lives we don’t need. Thank you Father. Amen

Before I start to talk about the calling from God, it is important for you to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him because without that it is impossible to know your calling, your calling is from God after all and not man. Salvation is for every person, salvation is personal and for an intimate relationship with God we must all receive it.

To me, our callings are God’s personal, individual invitations to us for us to carry out the unique assignment He has for us to fulfil in the kingdom.”

You will know that God has called you because you have heard from Him and know that He is the one speaking to you and as well as this He will always confirm it to you and instruct you on what to do. But you have to keep in mind that with the calling there will be obstacles, distress, disappointments, shut doors, the wrong people pushing you and more. There is no way you can fulfil the calling in your life on your own you will need God to direct you and instruct you or else it will not be completed. When you have the Holy Spirit within you, you will never be led astray, you will be equipped to do His good works through constant guidance.

Your calling is not necessarily your job, don’t get me wrong there are people in careers who God has placed there to impact those who come to use that service e.g. nurses, doctors etc.

But with jobs most of us come in and out of them, either we want a change, the contract is coming to an end, or we just don’t like the job and can’t stand it anymore and want to change our careers. With jobs there isn’t always security, happiness, good colleagues to work with or a good distance to travel to daily. Eventually people will retire from the job and even before that when they leave the job they can be replaced. Job cuts and redundancy are just some of the things people go through in the job setting.

Your job may not be your calling BUT that same job can be used as an instrument to help you in your calling. I use myself as an example, the job I am currently in is a job that has had a lot of challenges this year especially and each time I planned to leave something will happen and I will find myself still staying there, God helped me understand through my mentor that even though I may not like the job or some of the people there, I need to be patient whilst in this job because one of my gifts of administration is being used in this job to then transfer those skills into the Empowered United Women Ministry, and when it is His time and not my time I would leave there. For most of us it is one of two things or even both, that job is to serve a purpose in that season in your life before God calls you out of that job, but before that you are using your skills/gifts in it to be equipped to step and two it really is just a job to put food on the table and money in your pocket.

Whatever it may be, consider it and pray over it, time is precious and you don’t want to be in the slave mentality state of always getting up to go and work just because of the money when you could be doing more worthwhile things in the kingdom with greater security and rewards to doing what you love. God is not a respecter of persons to love you more or less based on how much you make. He is more concerned with what you are doing with what He has anointed you to do. The money, cars, jobs and career all come and go, they aren’t permanent. BUT it is your God given calling that stays with you until the moment you are called home to be with God in heaven.

To hear from God we know that it is important to pray, read our bibles, be patient on His timing, meditate, talk with those around you who are also strong in their faith, fasting and at times our journaling can also allow God speak to us too.

God equips each of us with unique spiritual gifts to help us in our calling. Romans 12:6-8 speaks perfectly of this:

‘Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.’

God will not download everything into your life there and then, it wont all be shown to you but you will get a snippet of what God wants you to do and it is then on you to trust in Him and move by faith and not by sight of what you see. You should always move in the spiritual and not the natural. Overtime He will reveal, He wont leave you alone to face what is to come.

Moving on from this, I will use myself as an example because only I can tell my story best just like all of you can tell your own stories better than anyone else. When God called me into ministry I remember hearing His soft spoken voice, and even though it was very clear it took me by surprise that I had to look around the room to just check if there was anyone around. I was thinking maybe there was someone there and it wasn’t God’s voice, then heard the voice again.

With everything spoken about it should always link to scriptures, if it doesn’t dismiss it, same way when people tell you things pray over it and check it in scripture if it isnt there dismiss it.

Hebrews 4:12 – ‘For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.’

The word of God should not be taken lightly, they are not just words, not just to communicate ideas to you no, but His words are powerful, life changing, blessed and work within us to do His work in the kingdom. The word of God gets to the core root of our souls affects our spiritual lives and directs our paths on the ways to take and instructions of what to do. We must listen- understand it- shape our lives- and apply it.

This is what I struggled with at first because I didn’t take and apply what God said straight away because of fear of being in ministry, how I was feeling and what I was passing through at the time. So I just heard and put it aside because to me I was going through a heartbreak, was in so much pain and so how can God use me in that state? How can I help women when I can’t even help myself? I wanted to give up, but then God was calling me into ministry? So many questions consumed my thoughts and instead of getting closer to God, because of circumstances pushed Him away. Something we shouldn’t do but it happens and eventually we end up running back to Him in desperate need.
You see when God calls you He will not speak too much but what He does say will be enough to make one pause and take in what was said to then work on how they were going to accept it and walk in their purpose.

John 10:27 – ‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.’ That is to say you know God and know His voice and follow Him because you know Him for yourself, not based on what you have been told about Him. It is important as well to pray to God to be able to discern His voice from your inner thoughts and the devils manipulated voice. Because essentially those are the three voices and for some it is very easy to hear all and choose the wrong voice to act on.

Romans 10:17 – ‘So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ When you know God (Considering the fact at that time I knew of Him but was quite weak in my walk- so that too added to my surprise of Him calling me into ministry). You will know with the little faith you have that what you have heard is a word for you and a word to act on, a word to shape your life and a word to impact others. From hearing the voice of God many things can happen, your environment is shaken and you are being elevated to a new level. Do not take the voice of God lightly.

Isaiah 30:21 – ‘And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.’ We are not of the world and even though once upon a time we were lost in the world, once we become born again even though there will be mistakes, returning to the world shouldn’t be an option. When God called me I had a lot going on, I was bitter, hurt and hopeless, but once I heard the voice of God it didn’t convict me to the extent of me walking in my purpose there and then because I was still questioning it, but we must keep in mind that when the people of Jerusalem left God’s path He would always correct them, and that is exactly what He will do for us too, BUT when we hear His voice it is important to be willing and ready to follow it, because a life without God is a life not worth living. It didn’t take me long before realising that.

John 16:13 – ‘Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.’ I think this scripture explains all that is being shared here very well. When the spirit of God is upon thee He will surely guide you, He will not come to say a word and leave you unequipped. The Holy Spirit is always ahead and telling you of things to come, to prepare you- break you and mould you to be ready. The Holy Spirit helps with patience and practising to discern what is and isn’t for us. You will not always understand at first when God speaks but learn to trust in Him that Jeremiah 29:11 the thoughts of good and not bad are His plans for us all, your faith will increase may be shaken at times when you look to the situation but as you get stronger in your walk you will learn to trust and listen to Him more.

Luke 11:28 – ‘But he said, more than that, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.’
You see how powerful but yet dangerous the human mind can be, look at this scripture it says ‘blessed are they that hear the word of God and KEEP IT’ It is important to be obedient when God speaks, pray over it and keep it close to you at all times. But it is not always that easy when passing through things, the mind plays mind tricks on us and at times we lose focus of what is important and what God tells us, if I continued to stay deep in my painful experience I would have missed out on the word God spoke, I wouldn’t have held onto it and my destiny would have been long delayed because of me walking in the natural allowing circumstances be placed higher than what God says.

My mind was playing tricks and I was unsure and holding back with negativity, a negative mind can rob you of hearing from God and your blessings.

Above all, know your Bible and feed your mind with it. The food for the mind and soul is reading your bible and applying it to your life.

To know God you can’t do this with a closed bible, closed bibles can’t feed the mind, and teach you about God and how to walk with Him. A closed bible cannot give you the answers, encouragement and wisdom you need. A closed bible will not help you be able to discern the good and bad.

Know your gifts and know yourself.

We all have special gifts and are called to do exploits, you aren’t a nobody but a somebody and what God has deposited in you needs to be birthed in the kingdom. Our gifts and abilities should always be used faithfully to serve others, not just for your enjoyment. When you are called it is no longer about you but about those you are called to serve. This will shape you in your calling to help build the kingdom. 1 Peter 4:10-11 ‘As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.’

‘Pray over the needs of others you will need to impact – Where are you burdened for others?’

With me the anointing upon my life is to help women, to help those who are broken and facing all type of pain, the deliverance of pain and realising your worth and all that women of God should know is all that comes together to form the Empowered United Women Ministry – Notice this ministry was formed from one of my very painful experiences and now that is what I am called to serve in..

We are called to impact the lives of others, it won’t be everyone you are called to serve, but it is important to pray over what God wants you to do and to who. With me I am called to serve women young and old, another woman will be called for the youth, another called for mothers etc. So we all have an anointing upon our lives to serve but who is what you need to pray to discover.

Therefore God uses what we know to awaken the measure of our desire that pushes us over the edge of commitment (Matthew 9:36-38).

‘But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.  Then said he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

‘Know your circumstances. This is very powerful, read and let it sink in, this is to say that no matter what or who is around you, do not let that affect the work of God and He will surely come through for you.

Parents, health, houses, lands, children, age, etc. All of them matter in our calling, but none of them is decisive. They can all be overridden. “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life” (Mark 10:29-30).’

‘Pray for God to throw you where you can be best used for his glory.

Matthew 9:38 “Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to throw out laborers into his harvest.” The point is to be strong in prayer. Ask God to use you to the fullest for his glory. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5)’

‘Listen humbly to the spiritual people in your life.

They not only confirm your gifts. They are the instruments of God to awaken in you possibilities and joys of missionary service that you never dreamed.’

I read this and will like to leave you with this word:

Biblically, the passage referencing “the call” is in Acts 9, we read about God’s miraculous conversion of Saul, a religious leader who persecuted followers of The Way. Speaking of Saul, the Lord said to Ananias, “Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel” (Acts 9:15). In what seems like an instant, Brother Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit, had his name changed, had blinders physically and spiritually removed from his eyes, was baptized, physically nourished himself to regain strength, and went off to begin preaching (Acts 9:17-22). That is “the call”—a unique, divine assignment given by God for his purposes, which requires faithful and active obedience, unwavering commitment, and devotion from the one called.

‘A divine calling is first birthed out of conviction. God miraculously does a work—either immediately or progressively—on a person’s heart, and that work propels the person into action. Many refer to Paul’s Damascus road experience as the immediate heart-change of God. Certainly, this is where the Holy Spirit entered Paul’s heart. However, the Father had been progressively and relentlessly pursuing Paul long before then. Paul’s heart had always belonged to God; his vision was just a little distorted. Before Paul had an intimate encounter with Jesus on the road, the Father was preparing Paul through his birth right, citizenship, faith tradition, language studies, work, education, and life experiences. God’s sovereign hand was at work in Paul’s life from the beginning, aligning every piece to build Paul’s character so he would be the faithful man God called to preach good news to the Gentiles.’
