Thank you for our lives, for healing, strength, your love, comfort and guidance in our lives. We may not always have the words to pray but thank you that you are our Father, who knows us so well and provides for us when we need something. Heavenly Father we love and appreciate you in all you do and pray to always remain focused on you alone in all we do.
So what is self care?
Self-care is the importance of looking ourselves in our day to day lives, it is the active and powerful choice to do things that will help us improve our health, whether physically, mentally, emotionally but more importantly spiritually. The well known practices of self-care include meditating, praying, exercising, dieting to name a few.
Will be touching more on self-care in regards to our hectic schedules, and spiritual walk.
We live in a very busy, jam packed London always having things to do, people to see, plans to make, errands, family commitments, jobs and so much more. But when it all gets too much how do you slow down and rest?
We need to be able to live a good life at a manageable pace that will not allow the work we do get on top of us, but to be able to feel healthy, happy, and at peace.
I am someone who works with a planned schedule, to help plan the days of each week ahead of time, deadlines set and how to go about getting those things done. I used to never be this organised, things always got on top of me, I would get sick and struggle to meet deadlines, until I stopped and sought after God to help me cut out what doesn’t need my attention and how to make time to rest more. It was a process and didn’t happen overnight, to tell you how tough it was, from having a full time job. God cut my hours to part time and then took the job away and gave me a warning to not go back to public work, but set up businesses to run, now I was really happy God stepped in to save me from the struggles of the workplace, and gave me a fresh start out of it alongside ministry. Because work and people were getting on top of me and time that should have been spent with God, was spent doing extra hours, overthinking about work and more.
I tell you all this to say that if something is for you, or a venture is set with your name on it God will not give you more than you can handle in that opportunity. But rather what you can handle and times for rest. But it is when you cant cope and become drained and overwhelmed that you realise you were moving in the flesh, distancing from God and doing things in your own might as you saw fit to do so.
We all live busy lives, with things to do but are those things simply to remain being productive in your eyes, or are they aligned to God’s will in your life? Are you doing what He is leading you to do? Or are you doing what you feel is productive to do?
Take time out to reassess your moves, your plans, your intentions and if God’s hand is in it. Because you don’t want to be busy without reason or substance to that busyness. Anyone can be busy but it does not mean that it is productive. Anyone can have a plan but it does not mean that it is God’s plan. Be sure to seek God wholeheartedly in your plans and never feel that you aren’t worthy if you aren’t doing something.
YOUR BUSYNESS DOESN’T DEFINE YOU, IT RATHER WEIGHS YOU DOWN AND CAUSES MORE HARM THAN GOOD, IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE TIMES WHERE YOU ARE STILL… THEN BE STILL AND LET GOD DOWNLOAD IN YOUR SPIRIT WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO DO. DON’T OVERWORK YOURSELF WITH WRONG INTENTIONS. BUT RATHER BE PRODUCTIVE AND HAVE HIS INTENTIONS AND MINDSET WHEN DOING THINGS.
1 Timothy 4:8 ‘..Exercise daily is good, no spiritual flabbiness, please, workouts in the gym are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and FOREVER, you can count on this, take it to heart…’
Yes it is good to look after ourselves externally but that shouldn’t be where it stops, we have our inner self to take care of. How in shape are you spiritually? Do you have an intimate relationship with God?
Don’t let society’s fast and vain ways make you lose yourself in only taking care of your outer being. The spiritual is by far more important, it is our faith in God that can heal not the clothes, makeup, hair etc. So we must learn to develop the faith we have by using our God-given abilities in service to serve. We always hear of people speaking about building their muscles, but how many of us exercise our spiritual muscles more? We cant neglect our walk for temporary things.
Set your priorities straight, cut off those who don’t add value to your life, cut out distractions and ensure that in every step you make, God is at the centre of it.
We are all limited resources, no one is perfect and so it is important to not lose focus on whose we are and what we are called to do, with this in mind –
‘If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden in Christ in God…’ Colossians 3:1-4
Seek the things that are above and not beneath a clear instruction to not let ourselves get caught up in the things of the world, and the fact that something is good doesn’t mean that it is of God. So be mindful of things and don’t get distracted, stay on course, focus on God and He will direct your path.
Think about this, if you are tired and always worn down with tasks to do, how can you hear from God and be effective in the kingdom?
If you are always tired and preoccupied with things how will you grow and develop?
If you are always putting things before God, how do you expect Him to guide and equip you if you are full of yourself?
